- I can't BELIVE this guy is STILL stealing on the net!!! I had a major
- problem with him when I sold my X-Calibur board. In the LONG process
- of trying to get it resolved, I found several other people who had
- been in the same situation. I even found the guy who Dirk was trying
- to trade my X-Calibur (which he stole) for something else!
-
- As far as my problem went, we had agreed on a $CASH COD exchange. I
- shipped the X-Calibur COD for $330 (at a substantial loss) and neglected
- to check the CASH ONLY box on the shipping label. In return, he sent
- me a check on a CLOSED bank account! He moved twice while I was tracking
- him down and I found him both times. He gave me a sob stories about the
- 'mistake' and told me he would get a check out right away. Later he told
- me he forgot (a few times)... and finally moved again and I no longer
- had a trail to follow.
-
- I was still trying, but it seemed hopeless. Finally, his brother (or
- possibly father?) responded to one of the posts I put on the net. He
- sent me the money in leu of Dirk and made good on the deal. He, unlike
- Dirk, is an EXTREMELY honest and commendable person. I am not posting
- his name because he shouldn't be burdened by Dirk's continuing theft
- over the net. But even he told me that I would have never gotten the
- money out of Dirk.
-
- From the people I have talked to, it seems that Dirk has a definite M.O.
- When Dirk initiates a deal over the net, you can be sure he intends to
- steal from you. If he can talk you into sending the merchandise first,
- and then he pays; you are ripped off (thanks for the free gift). If you
- send COD and it isn't cash only; you are ripped off. If you DO send it
- COD $CASH, your package will come back undelivered! He works on the
- odds... if he 'buys' a bunch of stuff off the net, chances are that
- some of those packages won't be marked cash only; and these are the ones
- he gets to keep (steal). Then he tries to trade the stuff he gets for
- other things (the electronics equivalent of money-laundering), and
- passes the stolen merchandise on to someone else. If questions come
- up... he doesn't have the goods!
-
- The real problem is that it is extremely difficult to sue for check
- fraud from another state. I'm sure he knows this and he is using it to
- his definite advantage. What really needs to happen is a class-action
- lawsuit. Since my grievance was settled by his brother, I cannot
- participate... but I know there are many others out there with
- outstanding problems with Dirk, his name pops up regularly - and since
- I was burned by him... I NOTICE!
-
- It is futile to try to warn everyone on the net, because there are new
- people ariving every day (a.k.a. "a sucker born every second"). If he
- has a bunch of deals go public on the net, he just lays low for a
- while... then starts up all over again - dealing with a fresh crowd.
- If you want him stopped, gather all the people who have been burned by
- him and collectively file a lawsuit. He doesn't have the money, but at
- least it would stop him in the future.
